Keith Secola, Ojibwe Keith Sacola is another native musician that we recorded in the category of "contemporary" or "transitional. Keith is a folk singer, rather a native version of Bob Dylan and, in fact, he comes from the same territory in Northern Minnesota as Bob. His music is well known in Indian country. Although he is a native of Minnesota and an Ojibwe, he now lives in Phoenix, Arizona. We were excited to connect with Keith--we have long enjoyed his music, such popular hits as "Fry Bread" and "Indian Car". Watching him play guitar is a true pleasure--you are not sure if he is playing the guitar, or the guitar is playing him. Milt and I laughed when we drove up in front of Keith's beautiful suburban home. We were still driving our Van with the front end damaged from hitting a deer earlier, and sitting in Keith's driveway was a beautiful, robin egg colored blue Honda. We were driving the "Indian Car". Although much of his music is contemporary, Keith grew up hearing the traditional music of his native Ojibwe people. A woodlands tribe, the Ojibwe migrated east hundreds of years ago and have occupied the northern woodlands of Wisconsin and Minnesota for a long time.
