Trebol Mexico, A 5-day Ceremony Part One: This unusual show does not focus on one tribe but grabs the rare opportunity that we had to be a part of a five-day ceremony in the village of Trebol, Mexico in which many different tribes participated. Included in the event were the Taurahamara natives of Mexico, the Yheebo Indians, the Peruvian people of Venezuela, the Tepejuan and many representatives of several North American tribes. The village belonged to the Tepejuan people who were hosting the event. The village is small and very limited in resources. The people live a simple life and work to maintain their own traditional ways. What a rare experience. The musicians gathered every night on the dance grounds to drum, sing and dance taking turns between the different tribes. The dance grounds felt close to the stars beneath this beautiful Mexican sky and a sense of closeness and significance built as the days progressed. We participated in something precious. Language was a barrier, but the music of the spirit and the heart provided a wonderful bridge between cultures and we joined one another in renewing our connections. During the long days we shop the products brought by the different tribes; baskets, clothing, blow guns, and jewelry. We eat our meals beneath the open pavilion and each meal contains the regular fare of beans, tortillas, rice and 'camp' coffee cooked up in a large kettle. Across the compound are tents, huts and a couple of tipis with hammocks hanging form the roof. We bath in a small hut that is shared with a tarantula and purify our water.
